Why Choose Gracie Barra?
Gracie Barra has been leading the way in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu across world for the past 50 years.
With over 700 schools worldwide, we brought Jiu Jitsu to everyone. It is our honor to now
share the lessons we've learned with you.

GB Jiu-Jitsu is a truly exciting way to get fit.

Jiu-Jitsu is often likened to a game of human chess. If you don’t like to work out at a gym because you get bored, you’re not alone. Many of our students were tired of going to the gym, and they couldn’t find new songs or audio books to entertain them on the treadmill. They found Jiu-Jitsu to be the perfect workout because it requires a high level of concentration proportional to the amount of calories burned and pounds lost. What’s more, you’ll still learn to defend yourself. It’s a win-win situation.

GB people are committed to your progress in learning.

The folks at GB make our school what it is, and you too will soon be one of us. You’ll be impressed by how committed each and every team member is to your learning. The instructors, staff and other students make our environment friendly yet demanding and challenging, which stimulates all of us to achieve our best.

The renowned GB structure makes your journey in learning smooth and enjoyable.

The class structure is the trademark of all Gracie Barra Schools. Classes start on time and adhere to a standardized curriculum and class structure. As a student, you know up front what is expected of you and have a clear understanding of what to expect from your instructors and training partners. The consistency of this structure combined with the creativity and innovation of our devoted instructors blend perfectly to facilitate your progress.
Have Kids? We Can Teach Them The Fundamentals
for Lifelong Resilience & Success
At Gracie Barra, we believe in passing on wisdom, strength, & skills
to the next generation. We take great pride in preparing today's
youth for the world they will face tomorrow.

Professor Enrique comes from the prestige lineage of Gracie Barra New Mexico team. He has over 19 years experience in Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Enrique began his training with legendary Master Rickson Gracie for over 4 years and then made his way to New Mexico to train under American world champion Alberto Crane. After Professor Crane left for California, Enrique continued his training with Professor Robert “Tussa” Alencar. Professor Enrique received his Black Belt from multiple world champion Roberto “Tussa” Alencar.

When teaching classes or correcting students the emphasis on details makes Enrique’s classes and coaching very distinct. Professor Enrique really enjoys teaching kids and making the classes fun! Professor Enrique has experience competing in sport Jiu-Jitsu and encourages his students to do the same.

“My true passion comes from teaching and coaching. Also, Self-defense has also always been #1 in my book and I make sure all my students embrace it. I really love that Jiu-Jitsu can change lives for the better. Spreading Jiu-Jitsu and serving the Tucson communities is my main goal going forward. I plan to change lives through Jiu-Jitsu.”
Professor ~ Enrique Villegas
Professor Al Guinee - Black Belt
Professor Al has been part of the Gracie Barra Tucson family since we opened our doors 5 years ago. He has been learning Jiu-Jitsu for a total of 11 years. Professor Al is not only a natural leader but also a dynamic teacher. He not only helps teach at Gracie Barra Tucson but during his work as a police sergeant, he is the main instructor at the Tucson police academy. Al has brought a lot of knowledge to the academy, that he is now leading our grappling and striking class. He brings a work ethic we all can respect. One of Al’s goals is to have a school of his own. Professor Al also enjoys competing, as he has won several tournaments. He is also a true hero Veteran.

Notable Competition Achievements: 2009 Pan Ams Bronze medal blue belt, 2010 Arizona Open Bronze Blue belt, 2012 Naga Silver in GI and No GI Purple , Grapplers Quest Gold and Silver in GI Purple.
Coach Ken Cueto - Purple Belt / Kids Coach
Coach Ken was always into sports growing up on the Island Of Guam. It wasn’t until he came to Tucson, Arizona that he started doing Judo at Kodenkan Martial Arts Academy under Shihan Irene Swanson. He studied under Shihan Irene for about six to seven years. Judo started taking a toll on his body, and started exploring other martial arts to complement Judo. That’s when he found Gracie Barra Tucson in July of 2013 under Professor Enrique Villegas.

Once becoming a part of the Gracie Barra Tucson family, he fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu. He loved how intricate, and humbling it can be for someone twice his size to be controlled. Under the tutelage of Professor Enrique, and being in his early 40’s he gravitated more to the basic movements of Jiu-Jitsu, and just trying to understand the deeper concept of movements. Jiu-Jitsu is supposed to be all about energy efficiency, leverage, timing, and sensibility of the body (Invisible Jiu-Jitsu).

In late 2014, Coach Ken started to really enjoy helping teach the kid classes. He truly loves teaching, and sharing his knowledge for Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Ken also encourages the students to strive to be better people on and off the mats. “Strive to be a better person today than you were yesterday.” That is one of his main messages to his students. Coach Ken does do some level of competition, but for him it all starts with: Self-defense, building self-confidence, being humble and helping his students be better people in society. His Jiu-Jitsu journey is starting to be his calling for the future when he retires from the Tucson Water.

When Coach Ken is not teaching he is working for the City of Tucson, where he is an Engineering Associate at Tucson Water. He does preliminary civil design work of water mains. He is meticulous about the details of the structures, discipline, and displays that follow into his coaching philosophy. Coach Ken runs a tight ship, but also knows the importance of learning, and having fun with Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Ken plans to one day open his Gracie Barra academy in the Philippines.

Our Testimonials

"I Gracie Barra BJJ has been wonderful for my two boys. They have learned so much in the 8 months they have been attending classes at the OV location. Not only have they gained a lot of knowledge in BJJ techniques but they have also learned about self discipline, teamwork and respect. They are taught to constantly challenge themselves and strive to be their best selves each class. The coaches have such a wonderful rapport with all the students. They have an incredible amount of patience with their students and also have high expectations and a low tolerance for misbehaving which really instills in the kids a sense of pride and purpose for being at the school. My boys have a great respect and appreciation for their professor and all of their amazing coaches. That hour they get to expend their excess energy and learn valuable life lessons is priceless."

- Elizabeth Noel

"If you are looking to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then Gracie Barra Oro Valley is the school for you. Gracie Barra has a solid lineage, so you know what is being taught is the real deal. The training is conducted in a clean environment that offers the amenities of a huge training mat, lockers and showers (check out their Facebook page). They offer day, evening and Saturday classes that accommodate any typical work schedule. The professors and coaches are very good and teach both self-defense and competition applications for the techniques. The students help each other get better and offer a variety of body types to train with. Higher ranking students from the Gracie Barra Tucson location will occasionally train at this location, offering more opportunities to get even better. Frequently Asked Questions
What type of programs do you offer?
We have a wide variety of Jiu Jitsu and fitness programs, tailored to our student's specific goals and their current skill level. To learn more about the various programs we have to offer, we first suggest signing up for a free intro class here on this page and then heading over to our home website. (We have a link on the other side
to our homepage once you've signed up for your free voucher.)
Why BJJ over other martial arts?
When considering what type of martial arts you want to invest your time, energy, and attention into, it's important to ask whether or not what you'll be learning will be effective in a real fight. Put simple, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the most applicable martial arts in existence. Over 90% of real life fights are taken to the ground. Additionally, we invite you to take a look at fighters in the UFC - you'll notice many opponents are defeated through BJJ style submissions/ground game.
 Will I get injured?
While injury is always a risk in a martial arts based style of training, the answer is it's very unlikely. As a newcomer to our practice,  you will be treated in a more gentle manner by our instructors and fellow students. Our aim is to challenge and teach you, but never to intentionally harm. There will be no "full out" fighting for you to be worried about. All beginner sparring matches are a simulation meant only to challenge your current skill level.
